Whining/roaring from rear noise only under load
1991 L98 Z28 with auto tranny and stock 3.23 posi rear. When I am accelerating, or the engine is turning the rear wheels at all, there is a loud roaring/whining noise coming from the rear of the car. If I take my foot off the gas, the noise goes away. The noise also gets less about about 30-40mph. Is this a rear related issue or a tranny issue? Thanks

Re: Whining/roaring from rear noise only under load
The transmission is not in the rear of the car. So it's probably not the source.
Sounds like it needs pinion bearings. Basically, that's a whole rear end rebuild.
What does the fluid look like? Is there any play between any of the rear end parts, with the drive shaft out?

No play, but the rear does have 190,000 miles on it. The fluid was just changed about 2 months ago and it was dark brown-ish, but no metal or anything in it. Looks like I might just shop around for a rear....
