transgo kit or rebuild with corvette servo and valves

Im either going to install a transgo shiftkit or a $100 rebuild kit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/700R4...QQcmdZViewItem with a servo and boost valves. My trans has 140k miles on it, the only noticable problem its has is early shifting. which way would you go

with 140k on the trans, you would be wise to rebuild and install the trans-go kit at the same time. if you change the shift points now it may be doomed. especially given that the trans-go kit is a bada$$. and while ya got it out and yer spending money up the stall some too..

I would recommend going with the Trans-Go shift kit. If it's installed/set up correctly, it can actually lengthen the life of the trans. Quicker, firmer shifts cause less wear on the clutches. Slower, softer shifts wear out the clutches quicker due to more slippage. Most of the time, early shifting is caused by either an improperly adjusted tv cable, or less commonly, by a defective shift governor. Most Trans-Go kits have different springs that you can reprogram the governor with. Improper tv cable adjustment can also cause the line pressure to be too low, which dramatically increases the wear on the clutch packs and is probably the #1 cause of a burnt up 700r4.

Re: hybrid trans kits...which would you buy

I ended up with an overhaul kit from monster transmission, it came with clutches, steels, band, gaskets, filter, corvette servo, and a .500 boostvalve for 135 shipped to my door. I also have a 2200-2400 stall and one of those tv cable springs that go on the throttle bracket. Im going to wait till next winter for a shift kit but it will definetly be one of the three transgo products( prog, red box,jr). the only diffrence that I seem to see between the reprogrammer and regular kit is the option for manual shifting and Im not interested in that. So Im trying to find the difference between the regular(red box) and the jr. kit. Any help would be appreciated I cant find a good thread on the difference in the two or aleast what the jr kit is missing from the regular kit. thanks alot everyone.

Since you're going to wait a while on purchasing a shift kit, I'd highly recommend you save up the cash to get a Transgo kit from Dana at Pro-Built Automatics. According to Dana, there's good things to each Transgo kit, but on their own, they're lacking some useful stuff. He combines the reprogramming kit and the Jr. kit together, and custom tailors it to your particular needs. He charges about $135 for one of his custom kits, which isn't much more than the cost of the standard reprogramming kit. He also replaces the steel checkballs in each kit with torlon ones, which are better because they're not as hard on the separator plate that goes between the valve body and the trans itself. So save up the money for one of his kits. You won't regret it. He's also very helpful if you have any questions or concerns while installing it. I haven't ever bought anything from him, but I talked to him on the phone before, and even though I wasn't a paying customer, he threw all sorts of valuable info at me when I chatted with him.
