Combining rear ends

Hey everyone. I currently have 2 rear ends that I would like to combine into one. i have a disc 2.73 open 10 bolt from a 91 Z28 and a drum 3.73 posi 10 bolt from an 86 IROC. I would like to combine these 2 rear ends into a 3.73 posi rear with the disc brakes. Theres nothing that should stop me from combining these 2 rear ends and putting them into the 91 Z28 as far as I know but if there is I'd appreciate your help and knowledge. Thanks
Colin

Check to see how the backing plate for the drum brake is attached to the housing. Check to see how the caliper support is attached to the housing. I think they use different bolt patterns. This will prevent you from putting the disk brakes on the drum housing. If they are the same then it will be an easy swap.

Re: Combining rear ends

91 rear= 28 spline axle shafts.
86 rear =26 spline axle shafts.
You are going to be mixing a lot of parts and end up using the older axle shafts which I think is regression just for a old Limited Slip & 3:73 gears.

Re: Combining rear ends

Read his post again. He already has the 28 spline posi in his diff. He want to put the disk brakes from the 86 onto the 91's diff which may be hard to do.

It's possible to take the posi, gears and axles out of the 91 and put them into the 86's disk brake housing. You'll just have to set up the gears again.
