82 4 speed to 5 speed swap

I'm looking at buying an 82 z28 with NO motor or tranny. Not too concerned about the motor, but I'm wondering about the obstacles to installing a 5 speed versus a 4 speed.

Is the torque arm mount part of the tranny case or is a bracket that's bolted on? Which 5 speed would be the easiest to install, T5?

If you are putting a 5 speed in, you need the bellhousing and clutch parts from the car that the 5 speed came from. You also need the transmission crossmember and torque arm from that car.

Example, if you use a 1986 Camaro as a parts car, use all of the 86 parts.

You'll need a T5 bellhousing, but the clutch is the same if you had the 26 spline clutch. You'll need the T5 crossmember and torque arm as well. If you find an '83 T5 bellhouing, you can reuse the mechanical clutch linkage.

Thanks for the info. That will be helpful in pulling the parts together.
