700r4 swap
Hello all,
As some of you may already know I'm doing an engine swap in my former v6 camaro(to v8). I may have to rebuild the v8 tranny but I have a perfectly fine v6 transmisson also. I know the bellhousings are different (hence buying the v8 tranny) but are the rest of the parts the same? If I can't use the v6 transmisson as a parts tranny, what should I look on replacing. (One thing for sure is the filter) Alright guys thanks any advice helps!

Re: 700r4 swap
I have shelled out the V6 and V8 transmissions and found no visible differences to me. As stock parts go, I doubt there's much difference!
The YEAR of the transmission means more to me here. The newer the year, the more factory upgrades are inside. In particular, don't use the internals from 86 or older 700R4s. Make sure you get the 87 and up 31 spline input shaft and torque converter.
No matter what internals you use, replace the reverse reaction shell or sun shell with an HD aftermarket piece. I bought my last one from a transmission shop and it cost me about 80 bucks. That was the weakest part of my setup. I have used a modified TH 350 piece with success as well.

awesome... the v6 is from a 92 RS Camaro the v8 is older and from who knows. Also, should I upgrade to a Corvette or Billet Servo??

Re: 700r4 swap
Some of the 6-cyl transmissions have smaller drums, that hold fewer clutches. The valve body may also be different.
I'd advise strongly against mixing-and-matching parts between the 2. Doing that can produce issues that are near impossible to diagnose.
Check with the experts and see what they have to say. I make no claim to being one of those.

Re: 700r4 swap
yeah i kind of figured that this would be too good to be true. I am however going to rob the torque converter from the v6, visually the v8 one looks to be in poor condition and the v6 is pretty straight. This will be temporary until nitrous (which i'll obviously need a new converter for anyways)
