Anyone have any experience with Hydraulic TOB?
Doing another project, and planning to use a hydraulic throwout bearing, such as
one form howe racing:

Infact, thats what I'm going to use. But I can't help but wonder, all you folks doing T56 swaps why you wouldn't just run the howe TOB so you wouldn't need the lame pull-style T56 clutch setup.. I'm trying to cure the same problem on a ZF6.

Re: Anyone have any experience with Hydraulic TOB?
I've used the McLeod universal setup on custom stuff; I like it fine.
I am also wondering why everyone is suffering with this T56 thing. What gives? Why is no one using the hydraulic throw out bearing?
I first discovered them when doing Jeep transplants. They are great!

The T56 swap seems to look more straight forward if you just use your stock clutch setup, and run a hydraulic TOB.

Re: Anyone have any experience with Hydraulic TOB?
How is it more straight forward using a different bearing, requiring custom lines, hookup to the master cyl, using a 4th gen T56 with the correct hydraulics its a direct bolt in and go.
Might be good for someone who happens across a trans without the rest of the swap, or for those running a 2 piece rms engine. When using a 1 piece rms, all i see is that you lose .6" of disc surface area

Here is the example: You have a perfectly good T5 setup, with an amazing clutch. your transmission explodes. You buy a T56 and bell housing on ebay. You buy a $160 hydraulic throwout bearing, and a $60 braided hose. You install, and call it a day.
OR
You buy the T56 and BH, you buy a new T56 flywheel, you spend hundreds on a T56 clutch thats pull style so it might grab behind your HP motor it might not. You buy the hydraulics, and than kick yourself in the pants for spending hundreds more.

Or......you could bolt one of these to the front of an lt1 t-56 and not change a damn thing but the trans.

Re: Anyone have any experience with Hydraulic TOB?
Right, but the majority of people going to a T56 dont already have an "amazing clutch" and the majority of T56's sold that still work are usually packaged with all of the parts and pieces, so you buy a clutch for the T56, which really isnt all that expensive.
Tom, your being silly.

Re: Anyone have any experience with Hydraulic TOB?
how does that throwout bearing you posted supposed to fit a LT1 t-56? the LT1 t-56 doesn't have the bolt hole on the front plate to keep the throwout bearing from spinning. it might work on the LS1 style but it already has a hydraulic throwout bearing.

[quote=anesthes;3596858]Isn't that for the LS1 trans with the longer input shaft?
It's for a t-56. It can be put on any of them camaro, vette, viper, (gag)cobra.
If you are upgrading from a t-5 this is the way to go. IMO
If upgrading from auto then find a lt1 trans and run a 3rdgen clutch, bell, fly set up with this mount plate. Most of the time its better to build you own "kit" rather than buying one.

[QUOTE=MrBrooks;3597354] Whats the length of the input shaft on a T56? You bolt that plate on, and are you going to need an extended pilot bearnig? Will the tranny sit too far back?

They probably make a hydraulic T/O bearing for use on non LS1 T56s. I know they make one for a T5.

Re: Anyone have any experience with Hydraulic TOB?
I used a hydro TOB from http://www.weirhotrodproducts.com/ and it was a pretty trick piece. Custom bellhousing and TOB that bolted to where an lt1's fork pivot bolt would go. It was pricy as hell. I never could quite get clutch engagement correct. Never seemed like it was completely letting go.

it can't replace the front plate of a t-56, it doesn't have the bearing pockets for the countershaft. it has to be bolted to the front of the t-56. it has to be for either the LS1 version or the LT1 version. those adaptor holes are for the t-5 bolt pattern. the vette is it's own monster. the viper and the cobra both have different splines requiring a special clutch AND yoke not to mention the differences in input shaft length.

Re: Anyone have any experience with Hydraulic TOB?
I picked up one used from a guy who didn't need it anymore on his '80s camaro with a T-10, so I can use it with my T-10 (I hate my mechanical Z-bar).
The setup is in my garage waiting to be installed. I'm not sure how i'll make up a custom bracket so it works right. I know our setups are different, but be sure to post how you set yours up, if there's any 'tweaks' or custom brackets needed.
