I was crusing, looking at info on the tko900 and found this quote on a mustang fourm
"Al at Tremec told me they rate their TKO600 at 600ftlbs in overdrive/5th gear. They also said that first gear is capible of 1200ftlbs of tq. That makes me wonder how much "bang for my buck" I got out of the extra $700 I spent on the MMR900 vs say a Pro Motion trans that doesn't have a cryo treated gearset."
I've never heard this before, i was under the impression that the tko600 was rated at a max of 600ftlbs, not 1200 in first! if this is true that sweet!

Why do you only race in 1st gear?? Originally Posted by //<86TA>\\

im not saying that i do, i just found this interesting, but i dont know if all transmissions are rated this way.

eh, I'd say they are probably rated in which gear is the weakest, but honestly I don't know. Either way, I've met less than 3 people on here who have even close to 600 foot lbs let alone 1200 .Originally Posted by //<86TA>\\

Just about any slightly built big block will have 600 ft/lbs. Any blown small block will have 600 ft lbs. I talked to a guy from tremec, and told him I had a 750hp car, and he said it would handle it no problem.
The only thing bad he said was they arent meant to shift above 6k rpms. (6500 would be just ok though) You have to take it to a shop and have different synchros or something installed. Not a big deal though.

I don't know about that. I know of a very small handful of guys on here that are in the 10s and if I recall there dyno graphs are not in the 600s. Originally Posted by Batass

any 450 hp n/a car on a 150 shot should have near 600 lb ft.
I hope to have near that with the 383 i am building up.
Anyway, maybe the gears can handle that power, but can the tranny case handle it? maybe it suffers from the same flexing that the T5 case has. T5 gear sets are made to handle 600+hp but the case flexes and causes bad alignment with gears and thus breakage. TKO is strong but theres a point that it should flex too.
