a few months ago my SHIFT light started to come on in the corner of my tach on my digital dash from time to time...no performance problems, or shifting problems at all, just the light coming on from time to time.the car has the original 1988 GTA AUTOMATIC transmission, so whats the point of a shift light on an auto, right ?

now my car starts actually having a shifting problem. It seems like first gear is winding out way to long. ( takes too long to shift out of first) then it skips second and goes right into third or drive ( cant tell which one) If I play with the gas pedal a bit it will make it go ahead and shift out of first. I tried to shift manually and noticed second is slipping. I took to a local transmission shop and they quickly test drove it.. said I need a rebuild .
I am guessing that I have the 700r4 because its the original 1988 GTA transmission and engine.. 5.7L TPI.

Is this the only tansmission that my car can use ? what is a T5 that I see other people mentioning?
someone said something about corvette shift points being higher, and to buy those parts for the rebuild but I'm no mechanic. anone know about that ?

should I ask for certian parts with a rebuild, or just go with whatever the transmission shop puts in there ?



whats the best thing to do at this point ? I have not driven the car but maybe 50 miles since this started ... and thats only to take it to the transmission shop and mechanics to find out whats wrong. now its parked.
