I have a 1992 RS 305 with the 700r4. The car works fine and normal from bout 25-30mph on up but has no gut to it from start. When placed in "1" manually it still acts like it is put into "2". Any ideas on a diagnosis? I've never worked on an auto transmission so if it doesn't need to be replaced, will I be able to fix it myself without getting in over my head? Thanks for any help.

 

check your linkage, it may not be allowing the car to go into 1st? does it do it when its in drive? when you take off how many shifts does it go through?

also check your fluid levels and even your trans filter, i dont know alot about them but i know low fluid levels and a clogged filter will make it do odd things...

 

Thanks, i'll have to check it all out this weekend. As for shifts in drive, it's just 2. From second to drive, then drive to overdrive.
