beefing up a 700R4, need some wisdom...
was directed here from people in the engine swap board....
I'm swapping in a 406 sbc into my 1990 camaro RS that was originally a V6 car, was directed to save some cash/ get the most out of what I already have, a beefed up 700R4 would be my best bet. I'm trying to build a streetcar with some *****, and I'm between going with 3.42 and 3.73 gears in the rear.
If I pick up a good looking used/rebuilt 700R4, how can I beef it up to be a good mate to the 406? I'm looking at getting between 400-450 horsepower, closer to 400 realistically.

I would recommend checking out a "Raptor 700R4" on the I net. They claim good to 650 ft/lb!! Even if you don't buy one from them, they have alot of info on what breaks and what they do to make their's bullet proof. Just type in "Raptor 700R4" .

This is my specialty, what is it you want to do exactly? Beef up your unit? What torque converter are you planning to use here? Let me know?

In all honesty, I dont know my *** from my elbow with anything transmission-wise.
I want to beef up a 700R4 to be able to mate to the 406sbc.
