400-500hp, need new tranny

iam gonan drop a carbed 383 into my 92 rs, i want a manual tranny, are there anyways to beef up the t5 to make it handle more power? id love to have a t56 but those are really hard to find down in louisiana, by the way will a t56 bolt up to just about any 350? and how would i go about finding the right rear end for the car, will a 4th gen z28 bolt right up and handle the power iam gonna throw at it? this isnt exactly a daily driver, kinda more of a go out on the weekends tear up the street and strip but also be about to take a cruise around the town with the other cars from the area

will a t56 bolt up to just about any 350?
No...

It will bolt up to ANY Chevy 350, not "just about any".

I can't imagine that they're any harder to find in Louisiana than anywhere else. Last time I was through there, I saw quite a few 94-97 Z28s and Trans Ams running around; I'm sure a proportion of them similar to the proportion anywhere else, somewhere about 25-30%, had a T-56. You just gotta be patient and wait for somebody to wreck one, and POUNCE on it when it pops up. It's not like people schedule their cars to be wrecked just so other people can gank the transmission out of them. And of course, there's even more in Texas right next door to you, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one if you really want one.

As far as power handling, there's no material difference between the 7½" 10-bolt in a 4th gen, and the 7½" 10-bolt in your car. However, a 98-02 one of those has a better posi unit, and of course it might have less miles; and it will also have better brakes, since yours being a RS, it has the bottom-of-the-line drums. Only "problem" is, and it's really more of an "opportunity for an improvement" than a "problem", the 4th gen rear is 1-5/8" wider on each side.

the LS1 style T56 has a 10.75" input shaft, and the LT1 is 9.25", so you have 1.5" difference so what am i gonan need to be able to fit the tranny to the block? blocks gonan be a 93 350 and for the rear end are you saying that i can just drop the motor and tranny in the car and not have to worry about the rear end?

what am i gonan need to be able to fit the tranny to the block?
The bell housing that came with the trans. It won't care what year the block is.
not have to worry about the rear end
I don't recall saying that. Where did that come from?

What I said was, the 4th gen rear is virtually identical to the 3rd gen in power handling capability. That's A LONG WAY from those other words that I didn't say.

No, not really....

3rd gens with T-5 or 700, and 4th gens with 4L60, 4L60E or T-56, ALL use the same length drive shaft. You can take any of the 4th gen ones and stick it right in your 3rd. Which is of course why getting them from LS1 cars is so popular.

You will find however, that the LS1 mount is in a different place from the LT1 version, which is also different from the 3rd gen place. They all require some variation to the crossmember.
