Re: posi or limited?

Posi is limited slip, limited slip is posi. Whatever you call it, your car might have it, or might not. The best way to tell is to take the cover off and look.

Re: posi or limited?

'posi', aka, 'positraction' is merely Chevy's name for limited slip, but it's become such widely known that you rarely hear the official names used by other companies. According to wikipedia:

Pontiac: Safe-T-Track
Ford: Equa-Lock and Trac-Lok
American Motors Corporation: Twin-Grip
Mopar: Sure Grip
Ferrari: E-Diff
Fiat: Viscodrive
TVR: Hydratrak
Oldsmobile: Anti-Spin
Jeep: Trac-Lok (clutch-type mechanical) and Tru-Lok (gear-type mechanical)

Re: posi or limited?

Posi = fancy GM product name
Limitted Slip = Generic Term

They are the same thing.

Take off the diff cover, and look into the center of the carrier, inside the ring gear. If you only see a big pin and some small gears its an open differential (non limitted slip diff) but if you see some springs in there as well, then it is a posi/limitted slip.

Probably time to change that diff oil anyway
