axles, do i need better ones?

as i type my rear is being rebuilt by my mechanic, its a 7.5 10 bolt eaton posi with richmond 373 rears. the 700r4 is also going to freddy brown performance for the street/strip package. and about 2400 stall. so with all my mods in my sig, and hopefully a p-1sc procharger being installed soon. should i also put in some better axles? if i need them , id rather do it now while its apart anyway. i hear moser and srange are good. any suggestions.

It all depends on your goals for the car. Seems like you've got a killer suspension underway, but your engine is running a hot cam and that's about it.

The Edelcrock headers are better than stock, but not by much, AFPR is only really useful once you get to tuning, airfoil is a 1-2hp tops mod, the coil is just a perf. coil, so it's still using the stock computer, MSD wires make the spark better, but it's all really just a tune up with good parts. The descreened MAF was probably unnecessary(and might actually affect your tune as the MAF is calibrated with the screens on it).

Someone else is running a 305 with that cam and was getting low 14's. It's a good cam for the 305 from what I read, but ultimately it's a TPI 305 with a nice cam. Willie was running that cam in his 305 when he had it supercharged and it worked good there.

With all of the suspension and current drivetrain mods, it looks more like you're getting ready to drop in a small block 400, or do something to make similar power output. If that's the plan, why replace the axles later when you can do it now? If you're keeping the 305 a TPI though, just get a nice set of 28 splines instead of the 26, but make sure that your posi is a 28 spline unit as well. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you're gonna make big power down the road.

Anything I said could be wrong also, it's mostly based on personal research.

thanx, scaryone. i actually am following ******* build, thats why i got that cam. and i was thinking of dropping in a 383, but for now for the same $$$ i can go procharger and get the same hp/tq and 1/4et results. so im going to add the boost. maybe later on some time. a new block or a 335 stroker with some nice heads. everything i put on the car including the supercharger can be swapped to another block. so should i be good with the stock axles under boost. i think wille had the whole stock rear.

Always remember one thing though. With the procharger you might get the same hp/tq and et, but it'll be boosted. The 383 will be NA. And if you boost a 383.... Well. That's crazy power. :P

I dunno if Willie had the whole stock rear. You could probably send him a PM about it. He might take a day or two, but I know he checks 'em.

Re: axles, do i need better ones?

Upgrading from the 26 spline to some aftermarket 28 spline axles is a good upgrade but your diff will still have a tiny ring and pinion. Although you may not break an axle, you still risk the chance of breaking teeth off the pinion.
