I did the swap but don't know the mpg for sure. I would say around 2-4 on the highway.

I don't recall my auto MPG, but with the t-56 and 4.11's on the highway around 80 I get about 22 mpg. Around town wasn't very impressive I was usually romping on it going from the 2.77 to 4.11's. Engine is basically stock except for full exhaust.

T56 and 3.27's with a fresh more-or-less stock 350 tpi... I've seen a best of about 32 MPG on the highway... City is likely below 20.

Damn, I wonder what I could get with a T-56...

My T5 lo3 gets >30 on the highway, cruising at 75. Like 15 around town tho.

My buddy has a 98 SS LS1 T56 and he can get like 34 on the highway in 6th. He sees around 20 in town, sometimes more.

Well if you keep the 3.08 setup you'll be like me with 2.77's and will never touch 6th gear, I only hit it around 90 before the rear swap.

If you want a T56 for the gas mileage and not for the benefit of shifting your own gears, then you're doing it wrong.

Re: 350 TPI w/ T-56 swap MPG

Well, I bought a T5 car for to be able to learn how to drive clutch real nice. Figured I would never seen 18mpg on the highway. I was surprised to say the least after my first trip on the highway!

BTW I dont consider the T56 the end-all solution. Jeff isnt even happy with the one on his LS1. He said it has quirks, like it wont go into 5th after being in 6th, unless he hits the syncro in 3rd or 4th before goint to 5th. Also, it grinds if you try to shift it too fast in a race.

My T5 isnt a great tranny tho, either. It will randomly grind on the way into gears, it will randomly spit the shifter out of gear while you are driving, it always kicks back on the way into gear, and its always very "clunky" not to mention the annoying gear-meshing noise when cruising in the lower gears!
