Quick transmission question.
Quick transmission question.
Was the 2.8L MPFI V6 engine in the 1986 Firebird backed with a 700R4/4L60 transmission? And if so is it the same trans as used with the V8 models or is there a difference. If it can hold up to a mostly stock 305 4bbl, I won't bother switching it out just yet. Is the input shaft different or will it all fit together? I'm expecting the flywheel to be different but I don't know about the input shaft yet.
Thanks a lot

Re: Quick transmission question.
The transmission is internally the same, but the bellhousing is different. The 2.8/3.1L engines are a 60 degree engine, where the V8's are a 90 degree engine. Since the bellhousing isn't removable on a 700R4, it can't be used. I want to say that the torque converter is smaller also, but I'm not sure on that.
