TRANNY TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!

My girlfriend just bought me my 1st camaro as a anniversary present from a family friend. So I've known the car for a few yrs now. It has a 700r4 in it, and back when my buddy 1st bought it, it would bark the hell outta second. Now It shifts quite gently compared to how it used to.

Also every time it gets to running temp, it almost seems to slip its way into second and shudders at times from a dead stop. But once its in gear it wont slip. I can hammer it and it doesnt act up. Its only when I drive at a regular pace. Now the cars got quite a bit of mileage on it also, is it time for a rebuild????? Or is this some thing I can fix in the driveway?????

Re: TRANNY TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!

when a trans gets hot the fluid gets thinner. if the lip seals in the trans are worn out or loose the thinner fluid will pass by the seals and not apply the pistons or sneak by a worn valve somewhere. getting on it harder increases the line pressure that could be why you notice driving normal and not so much when you're heavy on the throttle.

Re: TRANNY TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!

i would first check the fluid level and condition. if fluid smells burnt you will have to get into the trans and see what is going on inside. i don't want to tell you to rip the trans out without knowing exactly what is going on with the car but with a 700,if it's slipping, it's most likely an internal problem with the trans.

Re: TRANNY TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!

I just changed the fluid and filter about 400 miles ago. The fluid was pretty dark. Though it didnt smell burnt, the bottom of the pan was all grimey. It was like a sludge, But it didnt have any shavings in it. It still didnt get any better. It seemed to get worse.

It shudders at half throttle, and revs out shifting 1-2. 2-3 is fine, but OD is REALLY SOFT. BUt when I coast at like 45-50 and take it from OD to 3rd, (like downshifting to slow down) It takes 3-4 seconds to grab 3rd. Thats where I got confused, Could it be time for a rebuild????? Or is it something stupid????

Re: TRANNY TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!

If you found material on the bottom of the pan away from the magnet and you could write your name in it with your finger, it is clutch or band or both material. To keep this alive for awhile longer, tighten the TV cable a little, even though it will make the part throttle shifts a little later. Second, add a can of Lucas, I have seen this help sometimes too.
