2-3 clunk
Yesterday I was doing a little street racing.Since then my car is giving me a pretty rough sounding 2-3 clunk. It`s doing it about half the time. Now,I`ve had a 2-3 clunk for a good long while but this is at all throttle positions and sounds a good deal worse. It`s like the trans is protesting as it makes the 2-3 shift.Does this sound like go ahead and rebuild/new trans time or what do you guys think.thanks

Re: 2-3 clunk
The dreaded 2-3 bind. This is caused by a mis-timed 2nd release with the 3rd apply. What happens is that 2nd isn't dis-engaged yet and 3rd is applying. With the trans in two gears at once it binds up. This also wraps the driveline behind the trans in the opposite direction (it basically stops while the car is still rolling which opens up the slack).
Then 2nd fully releases, and the transmission takes back the driveline slack with a clunk. A larger 2nd servo or drilled out 2nd applies can aggravate and/or cause the issue.
You can play with the feeds to speed up the 2nd release. Maybe slow the 3rd appy, but I'd be careful with that.

Re: 2-3 clunk
So,having very little trans knowledge or experience and working 70-80 hours /week,with very little spare time,I think my options are pretty limited.I was thinking of ordering the HD or steet/strip kit from probuilt and paying someone to rebuild it or just buying one of those pre built probuilts and trying to install it myself or pay someone to do it.My only previous experience with transmissions is fluid and filter change and shift point adjustment.I hear one of the toughest things about it is R&R the trans bolts from the bellhousing. With basic hand tools, jackstands, hydro jacks, and a little time do you think I could manage it?I have planned on getting a new trans eventually any way.I believe it to be the original trans so this is no big surprise.
