Re: 82 Pace car
its an 82 camaro pace car with a factory 4 speed it doesnt have the original engine.. i believe it was the 6 cyclinder.. the dealer ship i wanna buy it from said it was built as a drag car... that the engine in it was the engine that they ran at the track im assuming it has a posi but i dont know is there any body that might be able to tell me some more about the 82 camaro pacecar?

Any car that's been "a drag car" could have been modified in any random unknown way. No matter what it came with, there's no way to know if that's what's still there, by looking up "codes". Wrong strategy altogether.
If it matters to you, take off the cover and look. Since you just bought it, it needs all the fluids changed ANYWAY; so make a point of looking at it while you're catching up on the past-due maintenance. Same for the gears, so we don't have to tell you the same thing about those. OTOH, any 26 year old stock posi, especially the POSs they used in those (Auburn or the Eaton Gov-Lock) will be worn out by now, and of no particular functional consequence. Even if it had one new and it's still there, plan on replacing it if you care whether it actually works.
As far as "tell you about the 82 pace car", there's not much to say. It was an appearance package (exterior paint, stickers, interior seat and carpet color, floor mats) with no specific "functional" component, although it was only available on the Z28. The only 2 engines the Z28 could have had were the LG4 (base model) carb 305, or the "cross-fire" dual TBI 305. The trans was either a 200C if it was auto, or if it was a 4-speed, either the Saginaw :barf: (cast iron case) or the T-10 (aluminum case). Gear ratios were usually 2.73, 2.93, 3.08, or 3.23.

But the car isn't close enough to your monitor right now, so I can't see through its rear end cover well enough from here, to even tell whether or not it has one.
I guess you'll find out when you pull off the cover.
Not alot of sense speculating a bunch of uselessness over the Internet.
The parts are what they are, no more and no less, no matter how much we drivel about them out here. Thread Starter
