I JUST GOT AN 87 IROC 305 TPI FROM A FRIEND,THE CAR HAD MODS DONE BEFORE HE GOT IT SUCH AS SLP RUNNERS HOLLEY 58MM THROTTLE BODY MSD IGNITION ACCELL 10.5 MM WIRES, BORLA STAINLESS EXAUST,SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL CAM (NOT SURE OF DURATION OR LIFT? 1.8 CRANE ROCKER ARMS,B&M MEGASHIFTER AND POSSIBLY A CHIP(I HAVEN'T CHECKED YET WITH ALL THE MODS THE PREVIOUS OWNER WOULD HAVE TO BE A TOTAL DOPE.I LISTED THESE JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT THE CAR BEFORE I ASK THIS FIRST QUESTION. I THINK THERE COULD BE AN ADJUSTMENT PROB WITH MY TRANS,IT WILL NOT SHIFT OUT UNTIL IT REACHES 4000 OR BETTER RPM.WEATHER I SHIFT IT MANUALLY OR IF I LEAVE IT IN DRIVE AND WHEN IT DOES SHIFT IT PUTS YOU WRIGHT IN YOUR SEAT.THE TRANS FEELS FINE WHEN IT DOES SHIFT NO NOISES OR ANYTHING IT JUST WON'T SHIFT OUT BEFORE 4000RPM.SORRY ABOUT THE LONG PARAGRAPH BUT I FIGURED THE MORE INFO THE BETTER.ANY SUGESTIONS WOULD HELP. P.S I THINK IT HAS A 2800-3000 RPM STALL IN IT.

 

You could try adjusting the T.V. cable but I doubt that is the source of your problem. My friends camaro did the same thing last year. It wouldn't shift out of first till 4500 when the car was cold. Once it warmed up the issue wouldn't be as bad. We replaced the converter and that solved the problem. Also please remember to diactivate the capslock when typing

 

With a high stall it should still move.You might want to check if you have enough fluid in the tranny sounds like that might be the problem.

 

 

sorry about the caps i'm new to the message board thing. thanks for the info i'll give the tv cable a shot. and you are wright when the car warms up it does get a little better. i think i'm just going to go ahead and change the trans filter and fluid too the car has been sitting for a while. do you know anything about tci tranny's?do they recommend a certain type of trans fluid and filter.

the car does move. the prob is when i take off in 1st and lets say i let the car rev to 3500 and then i let off and get back into the throttle slow the car revs like it's in neutral until it gets to between 2800-3000 rpms then it takes wright off without any grinding banging or any type of noise. i got the car with this trans already in it.the way it is doing this is what makes me thing its got a stall in it.
