There is a guy on Ebay selling what he is calling a super rare 90 TA stock B&W 9 bolt disc rearend with factory 3:70 gears. He says it was installed at the factory when the car was built.

According to info from this site and others the 89 was the last year of the B&W 9 bolt and the tallest gear was a 3:45. 89 and older were 26 spline. 90-92 are all 10 bolt 28 spline with the tallest gear being 3:42.

Is this guy full of it or am I missing something?

 

I would wear high boots with this guy's BS, because it sounds pretty deep.

 

The only way in hell those 3.70's are stock is if the car came with an SLP package. I have a 1989 article where an 89 iroc could be order from the factory with a cat back, headers, intake, runners, and 3.70 gears. Def get the numbers off the rear and match it up.

 

The BS got even thicker. Talked to him on the phone this morning. Now he says it came from a 90 GTA, t-top, T5, L98 car( this is super rare!! LOL. It also has steel calipers on it, so in my book that would make it a 88 rear end if it is a B&W. He still won't give me the numbers stamped on the ring gear and it has the cover off already.

 

Super rare BS, so get higher boots.

it does exist
think of it as a crossover year
there is no way however it would have 3.7 gears in 1990 (apparently the older models did 85 86 or so)
and it would have the aluminum calipers of the 89 car
