Difference in axles?

I was looking to find out what the difference is in the drum and disk axles and if they can be interchanged or what it would take to do so. I'm looking to replace a rear axle on my 90 Firebird Formula that has disk brakes. Also can anyone tell me a good place to find axles besides for summit and jegs. Thanks

Re: Difference in axles?

Disc brake axles are machined on the outer edge of the flange, drum brake ones are not.

Some times they will interchange, but you have to check for interfearence on the inside of the rotor where it meets the flange.

Re: Difference in axles?

Is there any easy way to check for interference and is there a way to over come it if there is any?
