another failing transmission question....

Ok long story time. even though its not 3rd gen its close enough and i trust you guys more then other sites. ok 1993 trans am 4l60 went out and the guy swapped a 4l60e from a 96 caprice cop car and it only has 1st and 2nd if you shift it yourself, if you put it in 3rd it revs freely up to 4k then will pull like its in 2nd, if its in od then it will do 20mph and shift into 3rd and wont pull at all, fluid smells burnt, i bought the car for 500 not running from a guy who bought it the month before and thought it would drive, he took it to a mustang shop(idiots) and they pretty much said car was totalled, i got the car and it had 4 lose plugs, and i mean loose. and a couple wires werent on, vacuum lines for egr were gone, headers air wasnt in, cat was clogged, and now it runs and drives in 2nd haha. so anyways back on topic, fried 3-4 clutches huh?

Re: another failing transmission question....

a 4l60 is just another name fo a 700r4 (with t.v. cable). a 4l60 is a computer controlled trans. (with electrical connector on PASS. side of trans). this unit needs pcm to shift trans. if the fluid smells burnt you have some internal problems with band or clutches slipping.

You cant use a 96 trans in a 93 no PCM to make it shift thats why it wont
