Will a 7.5 NON-STOCK hold up??? 1/4 times?

OK, i am building another 3rd gen, and I dont have the cash right now to drop another $2800 on a 9". So I was wondering if anyone has just built the stock 7.5 10bolt to hold up??

I am going with a Eaton Posi, Strange 28 spline axles and richmond 4.11 gears with a TA pinion support cover

This should hold up to about 500hp to the wheels right?

How fast have YOU gone on a 7.5 in the 1/4??

dont abuse it and its good.. dont expect to launch off a t-brake.. foot brake from near idle should hold.. just be aware that it can and will break if you take it too far..

i've heard of people in the 1.5 60fts with auto's.. i have never ran a 7.5 on the strip so i cant tell you my times.. my 7.5 broke on my very first pass.. posi blew up so i went 9" and never looked back..

I hear ya. In my other 3rd Gen I had a 12bolt and blew it on the 5th pass and ordered me a Moser 9".

I might just get me the 9" housing/axle pkg and just swap the center between cars untill I can get the extra $1500

Just read an old article about rebuilding a 7.5 for street/strip.With better axles, main cap studs, auburn posi and TA rearend cover, the article said it was supposed to be good for about 400 horse at the wheels.

I pushed a beefed up 10 bolt into the low 11's with no problems. No matter how much you try to beef it up, it will still have a tiny ring and pinion and that's the weakest part.

Save the money from a rebuild and put it towards a 12 bolt or 9 inch

I've ran 12.8's on my "beefed up" 7.5 I drive mine to the strip, swap out the stock wheels for drag radials, get 6-10 passes, then drive home. I'm running about the same stuff you are except i have 3.73 richmond gear set in mine.
