grinding
il admit it i dont know the first damn thing about transmissions. engines is what i know. but here it is iv got a 5-speed transmission in my car and it seems like one of the bearings is grinding. the bearing grinds while in neutral and all the gears but it gets realy quite in 4th gear and it stops grinding when i push the clutch in. iv been told that there is a possibility it could just be a transmission flush that it needs but im not sure that would fix it.

Re: grinding
I would have to guess the needle bearings on the inside of the input shaft that ride on the tip of the mainshaft are bad. That is a common problem for the T5 transmissions. You will have to get it apart to see how bad the damage is but plan on needing a new mainshaft and a bearing kit.

Re: grinding
Many (many, many) years ago I had a Pontiac with a BW 5 speed. It started making a growling noise on me in every gear but 4th. In the T50 (1976) fourth gear was on the input shaft. Due to the design the input shaft is better supported in 4th than in the other gears and thats why is would wobble a little and make noise when the bearings went bad. On it there were bearings in the case for the input shaft and bearings inside it where the main shaft fit into the input shaft.
It's a drop the tranny, tear it apart and replace parts job.
If it were me I'd be ready to replace more than just those bearings as metal particles may have begun to damage the other bearings/bushings as well.
