Need Advice For Modifying My Shift Governor

I'm posting this for the future reference of other thirdgeners as well as for my own benefit.

I just installed a "Corvette" governor and I still need higher shift points. I had already bought the B&M spring and weight kit. I should have just modified my stock governor and saved the $50 I spent on the "Vette" governor. Oh well.

It now shifts 1-2 at 4,300 RPM and 2-3 at 5,000 RPM. I would like both shifts at 5,500 RPM.

Would anyone like to suggest, from personal experience, what to change first? Should I go one step lighter on one of the weights or should I change both weights to gain an additional1,200 RPM for the 1-2 shift? I hope the two shifts points even out a little.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Re: Need Advice For Modifying My Shift Governor

Here are the changes I made and the results:

I replaced one of the stock weights with the lighter B&M #4 weight (matched with the stock white spring)

The remaining stock weight was matched with the stock purple spring.

1-2 shift: 5,000 RPM

2-3 shift: 5,750 RPM

This change moved both shifts up about 700 RPM and spread the gap between shift points about 50 RPM. According to the B&M instructions, stiffer springs produce earlier more closely stacked shifts.

Next I'm going to replace the white spring with a second (stiffer) purple spring. Both springs should then be the same and this may reduce the gap between shift points.
