when shifting from 1-2 at low speeds, it seems to stay in first for a little while longer than i expect it to and once it shifts, it throws the car forward. Advice? Thoughts?

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
Your TV plunger is internally sticking due to wear and/or sludge. Very common. If it does not free up driving it, a tear down is in order

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
I mean if it recieves more throttle the shift is easier/smoother. Its just when putting along is jerks into gear. I dunno if that makes a diifference.

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
I just got a holley carb and can't perfect my tv cable too. I took it to a trans specialist and he says everything was shifting good. but it just doesn't seem right to me. Under light throttle it wont shift 1st to 2nd till 2200, that seem right?

I'll have to read that later as finals are this week. Also, when i shift from park to drive it seems to engage rough as well, about the same way as the 1-2 shift when cruising.

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
The TV cable sounds like the problem here in both cases, too tight! Get the TV geometry correct, then all else should fall into place with the right setting.

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
New problem: Shifts seem ok, but i dunno if ive lost a gear or not but when i start giving it more throttle and its pulling around 3g's it seems like its not pulling as hard as it should be? (Actually its def not pulling as much as it should, its like the trans cant keep up with the motor.)

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
Probably slipping really bad. Does it have much pick up and go? Can you brake torque?

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
I mean it'll go but I definately think its slipping. It should def be pullin harder at those rpm's.

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
Might want to check your fluid level and condition. Sometimes doing a fluid and filter change can do wonders for a tranny.

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
Funny how the only suggested solution is always:

First
Adjust the TV cable

Second
Rebuild the trans (even if it is a fresh rebuild)!!

Always start out with the correct adjustment of the tv cable, but it's not always necessary to do a rebuild.

Good luck trying to find someone who knows anything at all about the 700R4. It seems to be the one transmission that pretty much no one knows about.

I've been having the same problem with mine. I've posted many messages, searched many threads, talked to many different so called "tranny gurus" and every single resopond has started with these first two, then they were all completely different suggestions that ended with "take it back to where it was rebuilt". One guy (that was refered to me here) told me that it would cost $1100.00 for me to pull the tranny out of my car myself, and take it to him so he can take it apart, look at it, and then put it back together and tell me how much more $$$$ it would be to repair it!

Now, I'm not saying that there is no one in this gigantic world that knows anything at all about this tranny, just that I haven't found anyone yet.

Once again, Good luck.

Oh, and if you do find someone, let me know.

Re: 700r4 Shifts?
For 1100, id just put that straight towards a new tranny. The adjustment I made on my TV cable did help with the slower speed shifts, so that was good. I'll prob just start to invest in a new tranny/tc once I have everything else taken care of. For now the trans will suffice as long as its treated right.
