Is it possible to put one in a my 86 camaro?it is from a 2000 Corvette, it just looks like i is missing the bellhousing and a tail housing...
would it work with an lt1? considering i change the main shaft to the lt1 style(shorter one).
Thanks

Nope, no C5 or C6 transmissions will work - they were mounted on the rear end housing, instead of the back of the engine. Its totally different.

Re: C6 T56
The transmission itself is basically the same. The difference lies mainly in the shifter mechanisms, the front plate/input shaft and tailshaft housing/output shaft. So yeah, you could use it if you swapped over all those parts from an lt1 style trans. But if you had all those parts....you'd have an lt1 trans.
Cheaper/easier to just get an lt1 trans.
Or, just get the transaxle from the vette and mount your trans in the rear.

Re: C6 T56
how would i do that? i always wanted to put an independent suspension on the back of my car...i just never new how...if it can be done someone let me know how...thanks
and normally yes...i would think it be cheaper to go with a LT1 trans from the get go...but when i may be able to get one for around 300...i dont think it would be as exoensive as spending 1400 on a used one...

Re: C6 T56
You could always talk to sixspeedsinc.com or D&D something or other that specialize in t56 rebuilding and see if they'll take that as a core on a fresh rebuilt one. Then it'd be like $1200+that $300.
IRS in a thirdgen wouldn't be easy. If you can fab it would just take awhile getting everything lined up and mounted but basically you'd be creating all the tabs, mounts and crossmembers from scratch. There isn't a kit for it or anything.

Re: C6 T56
i would much rather do the woek myself...cheaper... but what are the internal differences btween a LT1 T56 and a corvette T56? what would i need to change? I already know where to get a input/output shaft, and all the other pieces for the outside...but what is different on the inside, you mentioned the shifter assembly/setup, what would i need to change to make it work with a regular shifter?
