4th gen rear swapped in... now how about those goofing wheels sticking out?
4th gen rear swapped in... now how about those goofing wheels sticking out?
I have SLP wheels that I want to put on the car but they stick out and look goofy in the rear. Maybe with some spacers on the front it would look more even, but then the rear is still going to throw a ton of junk on my car.
Of course 4th gen wheels fit great in the back, but what will it be like up front? What will spacers do to help? If anyone has pictures or recommendations, I'm all ears. And yes I'm searching back through old posts, but the rear is a common swap and I'd like to hear some of the more recent fixes also.

The only way you are going to get the rears to sit "right" is with 4th gen wheel specs. The easiest way is to find some 4th gen or vette wheels that you like and put them on... But you can get custom wheels also. Just make sure the offset/backspacing is correct. Basically anything that will fit on a 4th gen car. So some searching over on LS1tech might help you out too.
For the front, you are somewhat stuck. You could do a couple things...but in my opinion only one of them will look good. 1) you could get a custom set of wheels. have the rears to 4th gen specs, and the fronts to 3rd gen specs. problem with this is, your front wheels will have more "dish" than your rears. Which is backwards in my opinion. 2) You could run 4th gen spec wheels all around. And in the front, you'll need to run a 1.7" - 2.0" adapter. I believe 2.0" will get you closer to stock. 1.7" is more for the guys running 4th gen front brakes, but Ive heard of people running them without as well. Do some searching to see which would be better. This will be your best bet for an easy way to make it look even, while keeping your costs fairly low.
Yes adapters are expensive, but custom wheels are much more expensive.
I might have missed some ways of solving your issue...someone else will speak up Im sure! Good luck!

P.S. Just for a visual...here is my car with 17" 4th gen WS6 wheels. 4th gen rear axle, front LS1 brakes with 1.7" adapters. The front wheels are turned slightly to the right in the pics...making it look like they stick out a tad. but they dont. Its pretty even. I love it...

ghettocruiser,
If its not to much trouble...can u post up some pictures from exactly the back and front of the car.
Would like to see how the 4th gen wheels stick out both front and back
Just to confirm ur setup, you swaped the LS1 rear diff and also did the LS1 brake swap up front right ? 16" WS6 rims right ?

If your SLP's are those 17x8" "hyper-black" based on the ZR1 wheels, then simply run your 8s on the front, and either gen 4 SS 17x9s or real vette 17x9.5s on the rear. No point in having your fronts sticking out, because you won't be able to turn tight without them rubbing.
