Rear end?
I recently changed the fluid in my 9 bolt rear end and ever since it has been leaking a pretty decent amount. It seems to be coming from the drain/filler plug. I know i could go buy a new one somewhere im sure but i already have some RTV gasket stuff. Would it be okay to seal up this leak by removing the plug and sealing it with the RTV gasket than putting the plug back in? Or would that harm my rear end in any way/deteriorate the plastic plug and cause more leaking?

Re: Rear end?
Is there supposed to be a plastic gasket on the plug, like the oil pan, that maybe got forgotten or broken?

Re: Rear end?
Well when i changed it, i took everything apart in a shop and didnt notice anything of that sort, when i took it off or when i put it back in, it seems to fit sung, it was hard to get off and it never leaked before but now its leaking quite a bit. It is a 9 bolt Borg Warner rear end off of an 87 formula, the last time the gear fluid was changed was by the guy i bought my car off of almost 3 years ago, he could have misplaced something of that sort i guess but idk, Is there supposed to be something there? This was my first time changing rear end fluid and i read up quite a bit and i didnt hear any mention of such a gasket that i can remember...

Thats what i was thinking, i just wanted to make sure it wouldnt harm anything. Although i did look around and i did not notice any mention of a gasket for this plug so im guessing one doesnt exist.

Re: Rear end?
If the plug has a flat surface to sit on when its tightened down (I honestly can't remember right now, flatulent brain) then grab a .10 plastic oil pan drain plug gasket that fits the plug and that should do the trick. Using RTV should be ok too though.
