454BBC+TH400 questions
i fell into a deal where i got a free "mild" 454 out of my dads truck and TH400(just rebuilt) for 150 dollars and i was wondering about a few things....basically check my plans out
--buy the "2nd gen" f-body BBC patriot headers
--poly motor mounts
--SFC's
--4 point weld in roll bar
--body mounted TQ arm setup
--B&M console mounted shifter
--stock "truck converter"(for now)
--some kind of flex fan(no clutch)
--a shift kit for the TH400
but heres where im kinda stuck
*get a driveshaft made*
i want to run my old 10 bolt until i can buy a 2000-2500 dollar moser 9" rear end.........
so do i have a driveshaft made now? and then have another made later?
(i plan on the hooker swap headers, tube k-member, tube a-arms, coil-over kit and such later......this winter most likely)
This is all going in my 85 trans am btw

Re: 454BBC+TH400 questions
2nd gen headers won't fit in a third gen
Buy a converter to match the camshaft.
You'll need a slip yoke for the TH400 because the output shaft is larger. Once the engine and tranny are in, you do a measurement for the proper driveshaft length. The length may change when you swap diffs.
Buying a torque arm kit from places like Spohn can get a TH400 specific tranny crossmember.

hmm seems that they fit
ive seen the patriots fit better than hookers "swap" headers......
but anyways, i keep hearing different things about th400's in 3rd gens and im hoping its worth it
im going to build a "budget" drag racer 3rd gen

so when i get a good rear end what is the time area should i be running around?
BTW, the 454 has a rv cam and i figure is its working great with the 4spd in the truck i figure a stockk tq converter should be alright for now
oh another thing....heres a video of the truck running(has a bad edelbrock on it, glasspacks and yes a nice lil exhaust leak
