1987 camaro won't go into park

Out of the clear, I went to put the car in park and it won't go? It is 700R4, it looks like 2 cables going to the shifter, any idea's Thanks for any help Mike

First things first, crawl underneath it and see if you can put it in park by hand. Park is all the way forward, and feels like a bigger click than the others. If so, you probably need to readjust/replace your shift cable. Otherwise, have fun.

^, or the very common issue, the linkage bracket has come loose or is not bolts to the trans pan like it should be. Check that first.

If the linkage is hooked up properly, double check the button on the shifter handle (the handle itself may be off). It may be positioned too high (which wouldn't allow you to push it forward into Park, being that it's not being pressed all the way down), or too low (which would allow you to push it into Park, but it would immediately pop back out of Park all on it's own). It needs to be centered just right....
