driveshaft and tranny question
driveshaft and tranny question
ok im droppin in the 350 tomorrow. i bought a turbo 350 from the junkyard and it was in pretty good shape. i wanna get the motor and tranny in in one day cuz im renting the hoist. how do i remove the driveshaft from the tranny? and will the driveshaft fit the new tranny without major work? im not sure what the old one was. the car is an 87 sc 2.8 multi port. i know i need that conversion kit to hook up the torque arm, how much do they go for $75 ????

You're going to need a new trany too. The one you have now is probably a TH700R4 which I've been told will get shreded with a 350.
How much work did you put into getting the 350 in? I'd really like to know because I have an '86 2.8L MPFI and would like to do the same thing. How much did that engine cost you.

He is replacing the 700r4 with the th350 (turbo 350) Erik.
Measure the tailshaft on the th350. If it's nine inches your driveshaft will work. If it's the more common 6 inch tailshaft, your driveshaft will be 3 inches too short and won't work.

thanx for the advice i'll check it later on. as for the swap i bought the engine from my friend who was buying a zz4. my engine came out of an 81 camaro but it wasn;t stock. it was just an 86 aftermarket 350. it cost me $550 but it didn;t have brackets or alternator, powersteering pump,or ac compressor. it had everything else. i been preparing for this swap for almost a year. im only 16 but for the average person it shouldn't take that long. the average person has a job and stuff. its not that much work
later
Erik - you have mail
I sent you two emails concerning the v6 to v8 swap. I have done this, and another member asked me for some info. I have forwarded the info to you. Hope you find it helpful.
Also, a TH700 will not be shredded by a 350, my IROC has the 5.7 and it came with the 700 in it. The reason a V6 700 will not work is the difference in bell housing bolt patterns.
