Why is my 700R4 acting this way?

Today I had to accelerate relatively hard to get in front of some traffic. I parked the car for about four hours at work and when I left it started shifting at 2000-2500+ rpms. Basically it is shifting way past where it is supposed to. I even tried manually shifting it, but it didn't work either. This has happened before in the winter once, but it went away after a minute. I can't seem to get this to go away for anything? Help please! Thanks

Matt

I'd check the tranny fluid.

Mine did something like that and fluid smelled burned. Changed the fluid and the problem went away.

Also last week my 700R4 did something like that, it acted like it was slipping but actually it was the fuel pump failing and causing the power to fall off. Might be worth checking the fuel pressure too.

Good Luck

You might also want to look at the T/V cable. It runs from the right side of the transmission to a bracket next to the carburetor/TBI/EFI, and connects next to the throttle cable. Basically, the cable tells the transmission whether the throttle is WOT, or part throttle. If the cable is improperly adjusted or not secured to the bracket, it may be telling the transmission to wait to shift.
