6 speed in an 86 IROC?
I want to know how entailed of a process it is to install a T56 in my 86 IROC Z-28 to replace the t5. Any suggestions or places to look for instructions would be greatly apprecaited.

There should be some info there, although I think it describes an auto to manual conversion.

I've done this swap, but my car originally had an Automatic.
The T-56 is almost a direct bolt-in replacement for the T-5. The only thing you have to modify is the crossmember, or you can buy one from Andris Skulte or Steve Spohn. Then replace your hydraulic clutch master/slave cylinder assembly with one from a T-56 (GM Part # 12559912). You also may have to cut the shifter hole back a few inches. That's about all there is to do and it will bolt right in.
-Good luck

The article I wrote last year on the A4 to M6 conversion. Pretty thorough.
Skultes conversion is more related your setup since his was once a T-5 car.

I did this swap 2 months ago. I bought the aftermarket borg warner t-56. This is a great set up for t-5 users because it uses the same clutch, bellhousing, hydrolic set up, and you dont have to cut up the floor. I paid a little over 2 grand, but it was well worth it, and was in the car by the end of the weekend

Well, there are two sides to that.
If you buy a T-56 used, it will usually come with all of the components, and it won't require shortening the driveshaft. Or was your aftermarket T-56 the sam overall length as the T-5 (not including bell housings)?

MacEwen, I am thinking about replacing my worn out 700r4 with a T56 (if I can find one cheap in a boneyard). After reading your article, my only question is where would I obtain a adjustable buffer for the speedometer calibration? Thanks for any input.

Jegs and/or Summit carries a Cyberdyne unit. They are around $75.
