I'm doing a t56 swap into 89 gta had a 700r4.
Is it possible to bolt the bell housing to the tranny and install them together?
Doesn't seem there is enough room between the tunnel and the engine for me to do so.
I see typical installs usually bolt the bell housing to the engine then bolt the tranny to the bell housing however i'm running into problems lining up the 8 bolts.
- I'm waiting for my bracket so that i can mount the slave/assembly to the tranny and have someone push in the pedal but that is a few days away and i want to get this thing in and move to the next step.

Its difficult to do, but its been done. You'll need to remove the hood and be very careful.
Dumb question, but did you put in a roller pilot bearing in the crank, for the manual trans?

I should probably scour the T56 swap thread(s), but I was wondering if you knew off the top of your head whether we need a specific pilot bearing, or whether they're all pretty much the same?
i saw numerous discussions weather to use the bushing or the bearing it could go either way. My bro whom has a 94 z told me to use the bearing so i went that way.
Kevin91Z This may seem like a dumb question but how does taking the hood off make room? Please elaborate.

I dont know if the two-piece seal crank uses a different bearing than the one-piece seal crank. Otherwise, they're all the same.
Use a roller bearing, because it has needle bearings in it to help the input shaft roll. The bushing is just a flat piece with only grease/oil to help the shaft turn.
Removing the hood lets you get the engine/trans up to a high enough angle to get them into the car.

Ok I feel like a moron. I thought you were installing the engine and the tranny together. I need to read more carefully. Sorry!
