Lound CLUNK.....Probly not the best noise

I have and 86 firebird trans am and when it is at a complete dead stop and you get on it the front end of the car lifts up and there is a loud CLUNK! i have replaced the Read shocks and i was wondering could this be the front shocks? If not what else could it be. But i have also checked the u joints and they are fine and there are no trany mounts. Any ideas would help thanks

There'd better be a tranny mount.

No tranny mount!!! then that clunk is the tranny hitting the trans tunnel. I've had this happen to me a few times.

Look between the transmission and the crossmember then. That's where your tranny mount is. You'll probably find that if you lift up on the tailshaft of the transmission, you'll see the tranny mount is broken.

Re: Lound CLUNK.....Probly not the best noise

this happened to me a few weeks back. just check between the tranny and the cross member like he said. the mount is probably broken. it cost about $6 at the parts store and its very simple to replace.
