Blown converter?
Blown converter?
I just got this car, and it drove excelent the first few days I got it. The car has a pretty stout motor and TH-700R4, but I think the converter is stock. The car tries to drive when you relese your foot off the brakes (its fighting to hold it a bit). On my way home, I noticed some chatter (kinda like grinding, hitting every once in a while). It only does it in drive or Reverse. I checked the fluid level, it was nearly empty (doh!). I refilled it, and took it out for a test (fluid wasn't burnt). It was shifting WAY high out of first and second under normal throttle (like around 4500rpm). So, I brought it home. The next day, I tried it a second time. It shifted normal from first, and second seemed a little high, but not too bad. BUT...no rd. Take it home. Another day passes....I just got home, and tried it again. Shifted into 3nd OK, but still way high.... No 4th. I'm on the highway doing 4500rpm in 3rd gear, only churning 60 (to keep from getting run over). You can let off the throttle and it drops waaaay down (like 1500rpm) and you can give it gas, it shoots up and catches around 3800rpm...no 4th tho.
Totaly blown torque converter or what? Tranny wouldn't have just chewed up 4th gear would it? I'm not worried about the converter too much...but I can't take a tranny rebuild right now. All the rest of the gears would act strange/not function if the OD gear was chewed right? If I drop the tranny pan, there would be metal in it if it was right? I'll be working on it when I get off work tommorow. Thanks in advance.
