Bigger Gears = speedo problem?

I heard that changing the gears in my car will throw my speedo off. I'm looking at upgrading my rearend gearing, but what can I do to correct the problem of the speedo?

You will need a new set of speedo gears. They are plastic and go into the tranny. About $15 for the pair and avail at any GM dealer.

New speedo gears may or may not require a new speedometer gear sleeve as well.

How much work is this, after I drop in the rearend gears? How time consuming and what must be done to adjust the gears in the tranny? I also heard of a unit that you can splice into the cable running from the gears to the speedo that will allow you to adjust your speedo using dip switches. Has anyone used this>?

If you have an auto, then all you have to do is take off the tailshaft. If you have a 5sp, then you have to drop the tranny.
