year identification for t56

I am looking to swap in a t-56 to replace my t-5. It is my understanding that the 94+ t56 has a higher torque rating than the 93. Is there an easy way to identify that a t-56 has been taken out of a 94+ fbody vs. a 93? (serial numbers, codes, marks on the casting, etc.)

thanks
bill

Yah, look for the CAGS solenoid. It'll only be on 94+ T56's.

What Kevin said is true, but the 94+ 1-LE T-56 also DIDN'T have a Skip Shift Solenoid. More than likely, you won't find either the 93 unit or the 1-LE unit, since they are less common. Hope I didn't confuse the issue, just want you to be aware of one more element. HTH's

EDIT: One last thing, If you come across a 93 T-56, don't disregard it, bercause they can SAFELY handle a lot more power than what the torque rating says. Look at Johnny Hunkins 93 396 LT-1 FORMULA, he is pushing over 400 RWHP and RWTQ. Also, there are many 93 Z-28's running in the low 11's with those very T-56's. The 93 T-56 is actually better geared for 3.23 and 3.42 gears.
