TH700-R4 Specs...?
TH700-R4 Specs...?
I need to know several thing about the Th700 we all love to hate.
1st: are the dipsticks ALL the same length across the years with thirdgens? Is there a difference in length between Camaro and Firebird?
2nd: Same question applied to dipstick tubes?
3rd: Are there any differences in the gear ratios from year to year with the 700?
My dipstick reads like there's WAY too much fluid in the tranny, but after pulling the tube to try and drain some, I realized the dipstick is going so far into the tranny, I wouldn't be surprised if it's laying across the bottom by the time it seats at the top.
Also, I'm considering a buildup/overhaul on my tranny, and I've gor an 88 700R4, and a near as I can tell 90-92 700R4, and I wonder if either is better then the other consideering they'll be getting a full rebuild and lots of B&M parts put in.
Thanks,
-Reno

The newer the 700R4 the better. Whatever you do make sure it's 87 or newer, b/c the older ones really sucked.

By the end of the week I'll have 4000 miles on the reuild and not a problem yet. Hopefully I'll continue problem free since I'm driving 2000 miles a month (mostly interstate) back and forth to college. I can't complain about the rebuild at all b/c it feels a 100x better than it did b4. Only regret is that I didn't have them put Corvette parts in it. Had I planned on keeping the car at the time I would have. I think they used the core of a 92 700R4 in my rebuild, I wouldn't swear to it though.

Re: TH700-R4 Specs...?
Thread is back from the dead.
It depends on the condition of the transmission if it's worth rebuilding. Obviously if it has some major issues you might not want to spend the money and time on it. I would recommend calling Dana over at Pro-Built Automatics. He usually is a pretty busy guy, but he's excellent at troubleshooting over the phone. He sells complete transmissions, rebuild kits, and individual parts for V8s at least I don't know about V6s.
