trans rebuild?????????????

My car is at the dealer right now with possible trans trouble. You may remeber from my post on the engine board a few days ago titled "need help very fasssssst!!!!!!!" The mechanics said The problem is in the trans and that they would need to do a tear down of the trans to locate what is causing the problem. They havent found the problem as of now, but some of the possibilities they gave me were a possible rebuild or a new trans which they say will cost over 2G's. If they do the rebuild, I want to improve the shifts in my car so I thought since they were there to have them install a shift kit. Then as I was reading the archives Some of you said that adding some corvette parts to the trans will do the same thing. My question is if they need to rebuild it, would they know what I am talking about if I say put corvette parts in there, Or would I need to specifically tell them the parts and if so can someone please list them for me? Its a 700r4.

I just found this article http://www.thegrid.net/thedrivetrainpage/niceshft.htm
Now I am wandering if I should get shift kit or corvette parts at all. If someone has read this or will read it please tell me what you think its trying to say about improving shifts. I am very bad at understanding what I read.

I am faced with the same issues, I have been told that the vette servo will do the same job, and is more tranny friendly all the way around... I dread the costs of rebuilding this trans, but its way tired, and slipping all over the place, for me the clock is ticking, and as always funds are an issue...
I love the car---hate the 700-r4's pricetag... I'll keeo an ear out and let ya know if I hear anything, good luck!!!

Any article I've ever read on installing shift kits on 700R4's has been negative. I do know from personal experience that "Corvette parts" have worked extremely well for me. My tranny guy said that a shift kit in a 700R4 will definitely shorten its life, however the 700R4 built with Vette parts will last for a very long time. You might be changing U-joints on the driveshaft a little more often but U-joints are cheaper than transmissions.

My car bangs like a mother with the Vette servo and internals and the new line pressure valve. The Vette internals aren't what make it bang, they just make it tougher and more reliable. The line pressure valve is what makes it bang by exerting more fluid pressure through the tranny, causing it to shift MUCH faster. I'm not sure what sizes line pressure valves come in but if you are having work done at a reputable shop they should know what to do.

Heres what I did. I had to get the one from the Chevy dealer. It is a rebuilt unit that has all the upgrades gm made throughout the yaers. The reason I had to go with this one is because my school is 25miles away and I NEED my car and cannot get there any other way and I need the car very soon because of this, so I couldnot wait around for one to be shipped. It has a 3 year warranty and hopefully it will hold up.It is $1700 but that includes labor and the tear down they did to myold trans.

Congrats on your SRTA (service replacement transmission assembly). They are great transmissions, and have a 3yr/50,000 mile warranty. I rarely have to go back into a SRTA. They are great trannys.

Thats good to hear, GMTECH. The only problem I have is that hopefuly next summer I will have built up or bought my 350 or 383 I'm thinking about, and that trans probably wont hold up to the power I want. I guess I will have to put more money into it and have it rebuilt stronger. Also will putting in a corvette servo Void the warrenty? I know they told me a shift kit would.
