Fly wheel resurface (how much /min Tolerance?)
Fly wheel resurface (how much /min Tolerance?)
My fly wheel is blued and need it resurfaced. its beem resurfaced three times so far (stone Mill). Bluing keeps returning at the same locations on the fly wheel (from the clutch!) How much can you take of the fly wheel to get to Good steel again and prevent this from Occuring. (GM wants 4 bones for a new one

Not that this will help you out any...but I poured over the tranny section in my Helms manual, and found no refernce to flywheel minimum thickness....
The only refernce to the flywheel is that if it's blued, it should be replaced.

I never got my right, even with it being turned. My clutch would chatter the car to death due to the flywheel and it never went away until I replaced the flywheel. I got lucky because I got the flywheel for cost from the dealer...$200. $400 is way to high I agree! My next option was the junk yard. There is a minimum tolerance thickness and they do make spacers to bring it back out so the clutch will mate with it properly but the blue spots are bad. The flywheel is probably warping when it gets heated up and nothing will fix that. Use it as a boat achor!
