speedo gear

i am trying to recalibrate my speedo after a 3.70 swap. i have the 7 tooth drive gear and need to find a 20 tooth driven gear. i pulled my driven gear out of my t-5 and it has a metal shaft. all i can find are the all plastic ones will this still work? i've done some research and read that the ones with the metal shaft are longer and have bigger diameter end after the gear. i also read that someone tried to use a metal shaft one in a t-5 that originally used the all plastic ones and it leaked and speedo worked erratically. now i was just wondering if it will work the other way around?

3.70? I assume you have an electronic speedo. If so, the plastic gears won't work. Check the sticky for more info.

Re: speedo gear

I'm not a TA kinda guy, but I was under the impression that the electronics didn't come along until 86 (could be late 85, I guess).
