will a 700r4 fit any v6 or v8?

hey all
i bought a 88 convertible that had the original 305 pulled and had a 350 put in. my trans slips between 1st & 2nd gear. a friend told me i can have his 700r4 that worked and has been sitting for quite a while. this was pulled out of a v6 he thinks. my biggest problem is that i don't know if they swapped my original tranny with the motor or they left it.
will a 700r4 fit in any camaro?
any feed back would greatly be appreciated!!
Thanks

Only a V8 700R4 will fit a V8 engine.

I'm sure an adapter plate can be implemented if it really is from a V6, but the question here is though, why would you even want to. If your looking for a cheap, but strong tranny to replace the current one, I'd recommend a Turbo-350. If you insist on having overdrive though, go with your buddies for the time being, but don't expect it to last too long though. Not sure about the differences in spline count but I'm pretty sure they're different, so you'll want to look into that as well....
