t5 trannys junk?
Hey guys,
I have a t5 tranny in my 85 Iroc. The motor has been changed to a 350 from a mid-80's Vette. I have been told that the t-5 won't hold up to a semi-high performance 350. My 350 has a hotter cam, but is pretty much stock, although I am adding headers and a cat back system.
Also did Chevy make a beefier 5 speed manual than the Camaros t5?

In 1988 GM started putting the World Class T5 tranny in the f-body cars that were stronger than your 85 T5. They are rated at 275 ft-lbs torque which just about any 350 will easily have. However, there are a lot of us who are running the T-5's behind modified 350's with no problems. The WC T5 was underated in my opinion. The problem you run into with them is continued abuse at a dragstrip b/c of the sticky track. Look at my sig, been running mine for over 4 years and lot's of dropping the clutch shifts from 1-2. I did rebuild my when I changed the motor.
