9 bolt aussi posi unit rebuild.

did anyone rebuild a 9 bolt posi unit? I have an 89 formula with the ausi rear, and the posi is completely open. my fault I never changed the gear oil, but i hear they all loss their posi action anyway. I auto-x and I need posi badly to catch those pesky 4th gens I'm willing to buy another posi unit from GM, but I hear they don't last that long. has anyone done this? I want to keep the 9bolt as it is OE, and big disk brakes that work. any suggestions besides finding a ten bolt. the gears are nice too, 3:45 (or 3:42 I forget now)

Larry, the good news it that the posi can be rebuilt. I have e-mailed you info that was sent to me by Karl Hunter on how to service your 9-bolt. Contact him if you have any further questions. Good luck, Lon.

I have a 1987 GTA with the 9 bolt 3.45 rear end. I ordered new bearings and 3.73 from reider racing. They seem to be one of the only companies with parts for these rear ends. 1-800-356-1330. i'm sure they can help, also try searching the archives on this page for old postings about it.

Reider Racing only has bearings and such. no posi units or posi rebuilding parts.

I hope you meant 3.70's, because 3.73 is a ten-bolt ratio. 3.23, 3.42, and 3.73 are 10-bolt, while 3.27, 3.45, and 3.70 are 9-bolt.
