HELP with TV cable, question about slipping
Is it possible for the TV cable to cause the tranny to act like it is slipping?
I thought I fried my tranny because she would not go into OD and was slipping badly. I jump out and adjust TV cable now I have OD but it still acts like it is slipping just not as bad. Can I adjust the TV cable a little more and fix this or did I just get so happy that I had OD again I didn't notice the slippage as bad?
Thanks guys!

Sure it can (TV affect slipping), it can even burn up a tranny. If the TV's adjusted too far "foward", the line pressure inside the trans drops, and the clutches burn up...
I always make a mark with white-out where the slider enteres the adjuster. Then I follow the TV adjustment procedure. Then I can just look at the white-out mark to see how far the TV cable was out of adjustment.

Hey TomP, what exactly do u mean by 2 far "foward"? Do u mean the sleeve being 2 much 2 the left of the slider or 2 much 2 the right? I'm havng troubles with my TV cable also, whatever the other end of the cable is connected 2 in the trans, it keeps getting stuck. And when that happens the trans won't shift out of 1st until like 4,000+ rpms. Pulling on the cable while the car is idling usually frees it up. But I don't know what's causing it.

One of these days I'll figure out the proper terms for this stuff:
Okay, so you've got the cable going to the throttle linkage, right? If you follow that cable back, you hit the rectangular slider, right? Then the slider goes into the big adjuster. Well, when the slider moves out of the adjuster too far to the front of the car, the line pressure inside the trans drops.
The test for a stuck cable is to look at the green end where the TV cable attaches to the throttle body. Note that the green end can slide on the metal cable. If the extreme end of the metal cable, which sticks out of the green part at the "front", is not "flush" with the green piece, then you've got a sticking TV cable. I believe the fix is just to replace the TV cable itself; I don't think anything has to be done inside the tranny.
See my message to APCAMARO about replacing the TV cable. When you have the TV cable off, you could play with the metal linkage rod to see if it sticks. If it does, then your problem's inside the trans- but I bet it's not.
Let me know if you need more, or how it goes!
