tranny shift like crap when cold!!

WHen the car is cold in the morning and hasn't run all night. You have to drive it like 2-3 miles until it starts to shift right. Like, if you come to a complete stop, it won't go into gear at all, and you have to put it through the gears to get it to finally pick a gear again. But once the car's warm, and you drive 2 or 3 miles, it shifts fine. What could cause this??

Well as ya know, that's not good... start saving up some cash for a rebuild. In the meantime, do you warm up the engine before you leave? Warm up the trans at the same time. I usually let the car warm up for a min or two, then I put the car in drive for another minute or two, before I leave the driveway.

I had the same crappy cold shift problem. I was about to prepare for a rebuild and voila, a tranny fluid change cured the problem. I guess it was probably crud builup blocking some valve or something. Downside of the fluid change - I'll probably still need the rebuild since now the tranny shudders before shifting out of second sometimes. Kinda scary...
