tranny shift like crap when cold!!
tranny shift like crap when cold!!
WHen the car is cold in the morning and hasn't run all night. You have to drive it like 2-3 miles until it starts to shift right. Like, if you come to a complete stop, it won't go into gear at all, and you have to put it through the gears to get it to finally pick a gear again. But once the car's warm, and you drive 2 or 3 miles, it shifts fine. What could cause this??

Well as ya know, that's not good... start saving up some cash for a rebuild.
In the meantime, do you warm up the engine before you leave? Warm up the trans at the same time. I usually let the car warm up for a min or two, then I put the car in drive for another minute or two, before I leave the driveway.

I had the same crappy cold shift problem. I was about to prepare for a rebuild and voila, a tranny fluid change cured the problem. I guess it was probably crud builup blocking some valve or something. Downside of the fluid change - I'll probably still need the rebuild since now the tranny shudders before shifting out of second sometimes. Kinda scary...
