Need tranny for just finished Miniram/383/AFR195/Nitrous setup. What 700r4 or TH400?

I just finished a complete buildup of my l98 85' vette and now need to pick a tranny to finish the project. The motor is a 9.5:1 383 that makes about 450 flywheel horsepower plus a 100-150 shot of nos. The car makes peak power at 6100. I drive the car everywhere i go and have 3.54 gears. Do i need to go with a Turbo350/400 tranny to handle the power or is there any 700r4's that will work for me? I only have 1300 to spend and that has to include convertor. Any suggestions?

I think U R better of with a 350/400. Any 700 you get will be on the ragged-edge of breaking all the time with that kind of power, man... The 400 is best, to beat up all day long, that is, and a GOOD 350 will hold-up all day too. If it were my money and my motor, I'd use a TH400 and good brand-name warrantied converter.

For that price, go with a t350 with a solid rebuild. The t400 will take more abuse, but takes about twice as much hp to turn.

I built a T400, but wish I would have gone with a solid T350 instead.

Mine is still running strong! I use mainly Art Carr internals and a Derale trans cooler. I am switching to a TH400 w/Gear Vendors overdrive for the 9-second engine, though.

if you want a 700-R4, which i reccomend, and you want a strong one, goto www.pro-built.net, talk to them, i've heard nothing but good things from them and as soon as i get more funds i'll be getting a 700 from them. 1650 and you have a STRONG *** 700-R4, shift kit, and a good stall.
