this is in a 9 bolt '89 3.4x gears, whenever i'm going slow now i can hear like a clicking sound, (baseball card in a bike wheel), but as i go faster like 50+mph it sounds like some pretty loud gear whine? I didn't get it up on jack stands yet and get under there, just wondering if this is a commmon sound for a u joint?

 

not sure but considering the cost and easy of replacing u joints i'd buy 2 and change them, since you're not sure of their condition any way and when you're done run it and see if the noise is still there.

aren't u joints a bitch to replace though, like u need a hydraulic press. I'm in college, taking the driveshaft off is easy, but.. Any idea on what a shop charges? I raise the car up and get under there to make sure that's where the noise is coming from first. thanks
